Principal
Dear Parents & Carers,
We have reached the end of term 2. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our students, staff and families for the hard work and dedication you have shown over the course of the term. I think we have all earned a rest!
Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday and I look forward to seeing you all back here on the 12th July to begin a new and exciting term!
Kind regards,

Religious Education

Over the term St Mary’s School has celebrated 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia, our school feast day for Mary Help of Christians and supported and encouraged our students who have celebrated in the Sacrament of Confirmation. We would like to acknowledge the support of families, Fr Anthony, the school and class captains and the students who have participated in school Masses and activities. May all our families have a happy and safe term 2 holiday break and we look forward to what term 3 will bring.
Primary School
Prep
This week your child received their own ‘Sound and Words’ booklet to practice the letter names, letter sounds and Tricky Words that we have learnt this Semester. If possible please encourage your child to revise these in the school holidays. During the early weeks of Term 3, we will celebrate our ‘100th Day of School’ keep posted for more information to come about this fun celebration.
On behalf of both the Foundation teachers, we hope you all have a lovely relaxing, safe break as we have worked very hard this term. Looking forward to another exciting busy Term!
Year 1/2
What a HUGE Term it has been! Recently students have worked on identifying punctuation in their books to determine what this tells the reader to do, such as pausing for a breath at a full stop. Science has encouraged us to present information about what happens when we change an object. Students have shared their learning in front of the class by telling and showing their peers about how they can change an object. In Religion we have looked at others beliefs and how these differ from Catholic beliefs.
The 1/2 teachers hope everyone has a safe holiday and we look forward to seeing everybody refreshed for Term 3.
Year 3/4
Well done Yr 3/4 students on all your hard work throughout the term. The 3/4 teachers wish you a safe and happy holiday.
Captain James Cook and the Endeavour have been researched and re-created through collage and sculpture. Mrs O’Loughlin’s class have been busy preparing a play that they will present Friday to the rest of the Yr 3/4 classes. We look forward to that.
In reading we have been focusing on the setting, mood, atmosphere and events of a picture story book. Writing has had a focus on different verbs; doing, thinking, saying and relating. We hope everyone keeps their reading up through the holidays and practises their times tables.
Year 5/6
Here we are another Term done and dusted. The 5/6 teachers would like to congratulate the Year 5/6 students on another successful Term.
We have finished the Term completing our Science projects on Earthquakes and the students presented them to their classmates. They have also worked hard during Humanities on a variety of different tasks to demonstrate their understanding of Australia as a Nation. In English, students have continued researching poetry and writing their own. They created some fantastic poems and enjoyed sharing them with their peers.
Well done everyone and enjoy your break! We will see you all ready for the second half of the year.
Art
What a busy end to the term! All classes have been putting in a great deal of effort to get their artworks finished before we go off for holidays.
The Yr 1/2 students completed their landscapes and they look amazing. They are full of colour and incredible trees with rolling hills or mountains in the background. They are on display in their classrooms and the art room.
The Yr 3/4 students have been having fun with scratch paper as the final part of their, celebrating Multicultural Robinvale. There are some excellent designs full of pattern and texture.
The Yr 5/6 students completed their tree houses very successfully and have been busily constructing something of their choice from cardboard. I have been impressed with the care taken with the finish of their objects.
Well done everyone.

Secondary School
Year 7/8
Well done to the Yr 7/ 8's on a great semesters work. The students have completed assessments in most subjects this week and are looking forward to their holidays. They are encouraged to read over their break, remembering to write the book title and pages read in their diaries. We look forward to seeing them next term, recharged and ready to learn!
Sadly, Sr Rosemary Kelly (known as Sr Basil) died last week in Ballarat. Sr Rosemary first came to St Mary’s as a teacher in 1966, later returning to support the school after two Sisters of Mercy were killed and two others injured in a car accident, leaving only one Sister to run the school. We offer our condolences to Sr Rosemary’s family and offer our prayers for her.
