Principal's Report
Dear Parents & Carers,
I’ll begin this report with a COVID update. I’m very pleased to say that we have had very few cases reported to us lately so lets hope it stays that way!
As of September 9th the Victorian Government has made some changes to Covid isolation rules.
If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you must isolate for at least 5 days from the date you took your rapid antigen test or PCR test. Your isolation period begins on the day you took your positive test and you must isolate whether you have COVID-19 symptoms or not. For example, if you took your test on Monday, you can leave isolation on Saturday if you have no symptoms. After the 5th day you must continue to isolate if you have symptoms (fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath) until your symptoms subside.
If you leave isolation after 5 days, there are important rules you must follow for those two days:
- you cannot visit a hospital or aged care facility
- you cannot attend work at a hospital, residential aged care facility, disability care facility and in-home care premises (including disability and aged care in the home)
We have enjoyed having many parents coming to the school this week for parent/teacher interviews and hope that you found the conversations informative and affirming. If you have been unable to get to an interview or have anything else you wish to discuss with your child’s teacher please feel free to get in touch with us at any time.
If you have been to the school lately you will be aware that our building project is well and truly underway. It’s exciting to see the progress being made and once again I offer my thanks to all our parents, staff and students who are uncomplaining and dealing well with the inconveniences of having one third less of our school to operate in.
As you know today is the last day of term 3. A friendly reminder that school finishes at 2.30pm and our assembly will be at 9am instead of in its usual afternoon time slot. We look forward to seeing all our students in casual clothes for the final day and look forward to a hot dog lunch.
Before we go on holiday, I’d like to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful families, students and particularly our staff who have worked incredibly hard this term, often under difficult circumstances, to make this such a successful term full of new experiences, laughter and learning. Congratulations to all on your achievements!
To close, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break and look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 3rd October, rested and ready for a huge term 4!
Kind regards,
Andrea Welsh
Religion
Our Grandparents Day Liturgy will be held on the first Friday back next term. This will be held in the school gym at 10.15am. All Grandparents and special friends are invited to attend.
October will see us once again support Cathoic Month. Catholic Misson Month at our school will help students to contribute to God’s mission in the world by supporting the work of Catholic Mission through prayer and action, including fundraising.
October will be a time for celebration for some of our students who will receive either the Sacrament of Confirmation or First Communion.
We hope that all our families have a safe and happy holiday break.
Wellbeing
SWPBS
At the end of each term, students who have recieved a positive behaviour in the yard token, are placed in a draw and eight lucky students are drawn to have morning tea with the Leadership Team. Students from Term 2 and 3 were treated to a special morning tea this week. Congratulations to everyone and keep up the positive behaviour in the yard.
Primary
Foundation
What an incredibly busy term of learning we’ve had in Foundation! It was great to meet with all parents/carers to discuss and celebrate your child’s learning. They have all come such a long way and should be incredibly proud of themselves. During the school holidays, please encourage your child to practice the tricky words learnt this term and enjoy the revision handwriting packs. Just a reminder that we will be celebrating Grandparents and Special Friend’s Day during Week 1 of Term 4. Be sure to check out our beautiful window displays that we will begin working on this week. Thank-you for your support again this term and enjoy a well deserved break.
Year 1/2
A fantastic term with lots of exciting happenings. We have come to the end of term and have enjoyed the learning processes we have gone through together. Thank you to all parents and carers who attended parent teacher interviews this week.
Yesterday, our Year 1/2 students enjoyed their walking excursion to the Robinvale Life Museum, where we explored our local history. The Bromely Road park was also a highlight of the excursion.
Although the school holidays are here again and we remind all students to continue to practise reading at home. Finally the Year 1 and 2 teachers would like to thank parents and carers for your continuous support in sailing with us in our learning journey this term.
Year 3/4
Term 3 has come to an end and what an amazing term this has been loaded with fun and excitement all throughout. Students happily engaged in the various events held at school. Congratulations to all the participants and winners from the Yr3/4 Team for making their teachers feel PROUD because of their awesome efforts during the Mini Olympics, held in Mildura. In Humanities, we have researched and gathered interestings facts about different countries which are Australia’s neighbors. We have continued to learn about shadows in Science. For English, students have been working on learning how to write Procedure Texts. Students enjoyed making their posters about Catholic religious symbols. Math has been engaging with yr 3 students learning about division facts and yr 4 students learning about subtraction algorithms.
The teachers of 3/4Team would like to say Thank You to all the parents and carers for helping us to make the learning journey of our students delightful in Term 3.
ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS AND COME BACK TO SCHOOL REJUVENATED, ALL READY TO ROCK TERM 4!
Year 5/6
Well done to all Grade 5/6 students on a fantastic Term 3! We have finished the Term completing our Geographic maps. They have enjoyed researching the many different continents around the world and they are looking forward to presenting their work to their classmates. Recently we have been working on summarising a text. Students are identifying strategies to ensure they are including the important facts in their summaries.
Thank you to all parents and carers for your support over the Term. We wish you a safe and relaxing two week holiday and we look forward to a very busy and fun-filled Term 4.
Secondary
Homeroom
Last Monday students from Year 5-8 were visited by Andrew Downes to speak about respectful relationships and cyberbullying. Mr. Downes will be visiting our school next term to speak about other issues facing our teenagers today.
English
Congratulations to all students who participated in the online English competition. We finished 1st in Victoria for schools with 1-50 students and 2nd in Australia for schools with 1-50 students. Well done to Melanie Thanomjit, 1,843 points, achieving the bronze award, and Cynthia Chan, 871 points, achieving the credit award.
Maths
In Year 8 Maths we are completing our topic on Measurement and Time. We will be starting Linear Equations next term.
Year 7 students have been completing work on their measurement project this week. Students were asked to design a playground and given measurements for different pieces of play equipment. Student had to work out the area and perimeter for each piece of play equipment and then draw their playground using a scale and make the pieces of play equipment. It has been fantastic to see the creativity and engagement of students during this task.
Science
In Year 7 Science we have just completed our topic on Separating Mixtures by conducting mini chemical experiments such as making Oobleck. Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid or liquid. Under pressure it behaves like a solid. But remove the pressure and it turns to liquid.
In Year 8 Science we have been investigating States of Matter.
Technology
Students enjoyed researching and designing their own recipe this week. Students were given a design brief and had to develop a recipe to meet the brief. It was pleasing to see the range of recipes cooked and that students challenged their skills.
Specialist
PE
This week we were lucky and had the opportunity to see Chelsea and Chris from Football Victoria! They came today to teach us some soccer skills and help get us active. It's the final week of Term 3 already, and sadly it's also my last week at St.Mary's while I head home and rest up before our newest little addition joins the family. I hope everyone has a great holiday, and comes back refreshed and ready for term 4!
Thanks from Miss Neyland!
Art
The Foundation students have been singing and making music on a Thursday morning. They have been practicing singing Frere Jacques in rounds and in French! They have been playing music to the beat of ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’.
Congratulations to 1/ 2KP for a fantastic assembly performance. All the hard work the students put into their dance routine shone through.
1/2SW and 1/2CB have completed their dance routines and can now refine their moves ready for their own assemblies next term.
Well done to 3/4LC/SM on their assembly performance with their ‘Rubbish Rap.’ All that practice definitely paid off. 3/4 FO are performing their plays to their classmates and this has been very enjoyable. 3/4RM will complete their plays as well.
The 5/6 students have finished their puppets and have been invited to exhibit them in the upcoming exhibition, Special Forever Voices, at the Mildura Arts Centre at the end of the year. There will be more details about this closer to the date.
